Welcome to Walter's General Store!

Walter's General Store resides in what was the Carlisle House Hotel and Saloon at 34 Brodhead in downtown Mazomanie.  The building was restored by Historical Properties Management to show the original floor and arch way that was once the back wall of the building.

The Walter family settled in Mazomanie in 1873 from Untersteinach, Bavaria, Germany.  The original farmstead sat just off of what is now Walter Road.  John Walter was a blacksmith who apprenticed under John Parman and eventually opened his own wagon and carriage shop with Frank Shower in 1883.  Over the years, family members moved around the state, but there have always been Walters in town.
